Hadron Alpha Select is a multi-asset event driven fund that focuses predominantly on European opportunities over a 3-6m timeframe. The three portfolio managers have been trading event driven situations in the Hadron Fund (offshore) since 2004 and have generated a strong risk adjusted track record. The main strategies employed in the fund are equity special situations, arbitrage strategies and credit opportunities (each managed by a sector specialist PM). The equity special situations book generally contains two main types of trades — value with a catalyst and relative value. The arbitrage strategies book focuses on announced M&A transactions, capital structure arbitrage and volatility trading with the aim of generating consistent returns for the fund. The final strategy in the fund is credit opportunities which is managed long and short and focuses on a range of transactions such as corporate restructurings and catalyst driven value investing. The portfolio is constructed on a bottom up basis, with the overall fund designed to contain a set of uncorrelated trades run on a broadly market neutral basis. There are three experienced portfolio managers running the trading books, with the overall blend managed by Hadron’s CIO Marco D’Attanasio.
