The Brilliance China Core Long Short fund focus on the long-term fundamental economics of individual industries and invest in the long term structural winners of these most scalable industries. The strategy is oriented towards innovation, structural developments and cyclical trends in the Chinese economy. On the long side, the portfolio comprises 20-30 names the team believe have demonstrated their leadership position and have become unchallengeable for their peers. Longs are typically split between core ‘Blue Chip’ assets and ‘ten baggers’. The short book is more diversified and includes 40-60 positions at anyone time. Contrary to the long book, shorting is primarily driven by top down considerations, with the book used by the PM to implement his views about the outlook for the economy, systemic risks, etc. The funds overall net exposure is dynamically managed between 30-70% vs. 80-140% gross. Brilliance AM was founded in 2013 by Lin Shi (CIO) and currently manages $1.2bn across a long-only and a long/short strategy.
